A sphinx is a mythical creature from Greece and Egypt. The Egyptian sphinx has got a man’s head and the body of a lion. The Greek sphinx is a woman with a lűion’s body and wings.

A mermaid is a mythical sea creature. She’s got the head and body of a woman and the tail of a fish.

A fairy is a creature with magic powers. Fairies are very smalland they’ve got wings, like butterflies.

The Gorgon is a woman with big wings. She’s got big teeth and snakes for hair.

26.What do you usually do in your free time? /What do you do after school?

In my free time I usually ride my bike/scooter and I play a lot with my dog. After school I sometimes play football with my friends or we just hang out together. In the evenings I watch tv or play board games with my family. Before going to sleep I read in bed for a while.

My favourite cartoon character is Sponge Bob. He is a good-natured, optimistic, cheerful yellow sea sponge. He lives in the undersea city of Bikini Bottom. He lives in a pineapple with his pet snail Gary. He works as a cook at a local fast food restaurant, the Krusty Krab. His favourite hobbies are jelly-fishing, karate and blowing bubbles. He often hangs around with his best friend Patrick, who lives in the same street as Sponge Bob, two doors down.

32.Describe your daily routine.

I get up at 6:30 on weekdays. I go to the bathroom first to wash my face. Then I get dressed. I have breakfast, then I brush my teeth and comb my hair. I go to school at 7:30. It’s not far, so I go on foot. / It’s quite far, so my mum/dad takes me there by car. /It’s in another village, so I take the bus. Lessons start at 8 o’clock. I usually have 5-7 lessons. I have lunch in the canteen after my last lesson, then I go home. I usually get home between 1:00 and 3:00 pm. On Tuesdays I get home later, at 5 pm, because I have football training. When I arrive home I relax for a while, then I do my homework. I have dinner with my family between 6 and 7 pm. After lunch I play on my computer for an hour. After that I have a shower and go (up) to my room. I read a book or watch my favourite tv programme. I go to sleep at 9 o’clock.

33.Describe your neighbourhood.

I live in a nice neighbourhood in a village/small town. My house is in Rose Street. It’s very peaceful and quiet because it’s a dead-end street. There is a park near my house. I often go there with my friends after school. There’s a supermarket nearby. I sometimes go shopping there with my mum. My school is opposite the supermarket, between the post office and the nursery.

34.Tell me about your house.

I live in a nice house in the country. There are six rooms in the house. There is a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom with a shower downstairs and there are two bedrooms and a bathroom with a bathtub upstairs. The bathroom is between the two bedrooms. Behind the house there is a big garden. it’s beautiful.

35. What’s your dream house like? (Has it got a swimming pool with slides, a jacuzzi, a home cinema, a gym, a lift/elevator, a playground, a tennis court etc.? Where is it? 38.What furniture is there in your bedroom? What does your room look like? The walls are blue, because that’s my favourite colour. There are posters of my favourite sports stars, film stars and singers on the wall. There’s a comfortable bed. I’ve got a bedside table with a lamp on it. My desk is near the window. My laptop is on the desk. There is a stereo, too. I’ve got a swivel chair. There is a bookcase next to the desk. There’s a wardrobe for my clothes and I’ve got some plastic boxes for my toys. The carpet is brown and beige. It’s very soft. The curtains are white. I can see the garden/the street from my window. I like my bedroom. I think it’s cool. / I don’t really like my bedroom. It’s too small/dark.

39.Tell me about the things you can or can’t do. I can swim/do judo/ride a horse/play the violin/ do lots of magic tricks/speak English, but I can’t ski/cook/ rollerblade. I’m very good at drawing, but I’m not so good at painting. I can sing well, but I’m not a good dancer.

40.Do you know any famous sights of London?

1.The National Gallery is in Trafalgar Square.

2.There are lots of theatres and cinemas at West End.

3. Covent Garden Market is a very popular place in London. There are shops and restaurants there. So, you can go shopping or have lunch.

4. Buckingham Palace is the home of the Queen of England and her family. You can visit the Palace and also walk around Green Park. It’s next to the Palace.

5. The Tower of London has got a very long and interesting history. Today it’s a museum. There’s also a great view of Tower Bridge

41.What do you know about The White House? The White House is the home of the president of the USA. It’s in Washington D. C. The address is 1600, Pennsylvania Avenue. There are 6 floors: 2 floors for the president and his family; 2 floors for offices and visitors and 2 basements. There are 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, and 3 lifts. There are 412 doors and 147 windows. There’s also a swimming pool, a gym and a cinema. There are beautiful gardens all around the building. Lots of people work in the White House. The president’s office is called „The Oval Office” It’s a round office. About 6000 people visit the White House every day. That’s about 2 million people a year!

42.What’s your favourite food? My favourite food is home-made pizza with lots of different toppings such as ham, mushroom, corn, tomato, cheese etc. I also like pancakes with jam, cocoa powder, icing sugar and lemon juice or cottage cheese and raisins.

43.Do you like going to restaurants? Where do you like eating? Yes, I do. I sometimes go to a restaurant for lunch or dinner with my family. We go to our favourite restaurant once or twice a month and when we celebrate someone’s birthday in the family. It’s an Italian restaurant. I also like fast food restaurants very much. My favourite ones are McDonalds, Burger King and KFC.

44.How often do you eat fast food/junk food? Eating too much junk food is bad for you. I try to eat right, so I don’t often eat fast food. I sometimes have a burger with some chips and ketchup or a slice of pizza.

45.Do you eat meat? Yes, I do. I like poultry (szárnyasok) and pork (disznóhús). No, I don’t. I’m a vegetarian.

46.Do you eat vegetables? (What’s your favourite one?) What about fruit?

a) Yes, I do. I like raw (nyers) vegetables and vegetable dishes (zöldséges ételek) very much. Right now, my favourite is stuffed (töltött) zucchini. I also like tomatoes, green peppers, carrots, beans and peas.

b) b) I know they are good for you, but unfortunately (sajnos) I don’t really like vegetables. I sometimes eat a tomato, a green pepper or an onion.

47. Tell me about your eating habits (What do you have for breakfast, elevenses, lunch and dinner, dessert?)

In the morning, I eat cereals with milk or scrambled eggs/fried eggs/an omelette/ham & eggs. Between 10 and 11 o’clock I have some fruit. For lunch, we usually have some soup and then a meat dish (húsétel) or fish with rice, pasta, chips, mashed potatoes (krumplipüré) or steamed vegetables (párolt zöldségek). For dessert, my mum usually bakes a cake. Banana and chocolate cupcakes are my favourite. For dinner, we often have a sandwich or sometimes just a fruit salad.

48.Do you know any exotic food?

Escamoles are very popular in Mexico. They look like small beans and taste like corn, but they aren’t. They’re ant eggs fried in butter. They are very expensive.

Durians are fruit from Asia. Durians look strange, they taste funny and they smell really, really bad. They have got lots of spikes on the outside, but inside they’re soft like butter.

Escargots are cooked snails. The French, the Portuguese and the Spanish like eating them with butter and garlic.

50. When’s your birthday? It’s in June. It’s on 30 June. (szóban: It’s on THE thirtieTH OF June.)

51. How do you celebrate your birthday? I always have a party on my birthday and a big cake with candles on it. My friends and family sing „Happy Birthday” and they give me presents. I always make a wish before I blow out the candles. Then we cut the cake and eat a slice or two. After that we play party games and have lots of fun.

52. How do people celebrate birthdays in other countries?

In Denmark (Dánia) they put a flag outside the child’s bedroom. Parents put presents around the child’s bed at night and the child sees them in the morning.

In Canada friends and family put butter on the child’s nose for good luck.

In the Netherlands (Hollandia) children give sweets to their classmates. The teacher also makes a birthday hat for the birthday child.

In Argentina girls have a big birthday party on their 15th birthday. At the party, the birthday girl dances with her father and friends.

53.How do you celebrate Mother’s day?

People celebrate Mother’s day all around the world. Each year on this special day children show their mothers how much they love them. I usually make a Mother’s Day card for her and I draw a picture on the card or write a poem. I buy or make her a present. I also give her a bunch of flowers. I usually prepare breakfast for her because I want to help her relax.

54.What is Thanksgiving?

In the USA people celebrate Thanksgiving on the 4th Thursday in November. They give thanks for the things they’ve got. All the members of the family get together, decorate the house and cook and watch American football on tv. Then, they have a special Thanksgiving meal. Americans always have turkey with stuffing, cranberry sauce and vegetables on Thanksgiving. And for dessert the have pumpkin pie.

55.What do we celebrate on May Day (Majális)?

On 1st May people around the world celebrate the end of a long winter. In England, children and adults dance around the Maypole. In some places, in the evening of 30th of April it is time for bonfires (tábortűz, örömtűz). Men light fires and lots of people jump over them three times for good luck. Labour Day (A munka ünnepe) is also on 1st May. Many people go to outdoor festivities (kültéri ünnepségek) in parks.

56. What do people do on Halloween?

Halloween is on 31st October. In the United States, in England and in many other places around the world people have lots of fun on Halloween. They carve pumpkins to make Jack-o-lanterns. They make a scary face on a pumpkin, put a candle inside and put it in front of the house. Children dress up as witches, ghosts, skeletons or zombies and go trick-or-treating. Some of them knock on their neighbours’ door and run away. Others stay and get a treat (sweets, cakes. biscuits, chocolate or candies). Children also go to parties and play lots of games, like „apple bobbing” or treasure hunt.

57. What is Red Nose Day?

Every two years in the UK, the charity „Comic Relief” organises a special day to raise money. It’s called Red Nose Day. It’s a day full of fun and jokes. In the evening, everyone stays at home and watches hours of comedy on tv. Lots of people take part: celebrities, doctors, nurses, teachers, school children, taxi drivers, shop assistants etc. People do lots of silly things to get money. Everyone buys a red nose and wears it. All the money goes to poor countries around the world. It helps make the world a better place for everyone.

58. What’s the weather like in spring? & What do you do in spring? In spring, the weather is very changeable. Sometimes it’s windy and rainy. Sometimes it’s sunny and warm. I always pick violets for my mum in spring.

59.What’s the weather like in summer? & What do you do in summer? In summer, the sun shines in a clear blue sky. It is usually hot (above 30 degrees). Sometimes there are storms (viharok) with thunder and lightning (dörgés és villámlás). I always go to the beach in the summer.

60.What’s the weather like in autumn? & What do you do in autumn? In autumn, it is often windy, cloudy and rainy. It is usually foggy in the morning. The days get cooler and shorter. I always collect colourful leaves in autumn and I sometimes fly my kite.

61.What’s the weather like in winter? & What do you do in winter?

In winter, it’s cold. It often freezes and it sometimes snows. In winter we can go skiing, ice skating, snowboarding or sledging (szánkózni). When it snows I make snow angels and build a snowman in our garden. At school, I have a snowball fight with my friends.
